One such project is the Mirfa Fruit and Vegetable processing factory, 200 kilometres west of Abu Dhabi. The contract, built by a joint venture of ACC and Industrie Technofrigo Dell'Orto, was a turnkey project encompassing 15 buildings with their own power and water supplies, staff accommodation and transport links to local farms.

Structures include a vegetables processing building, a dates processing building, potato and onions processing building, a canning building, a wastewater treatment plant, cooling towers, offices and staff accommodation.

The factory, which has a capacity of 6,700 tons per year, will process vegetables grown in the newly irrigated surrounding farmland. The farms are part of a new government scheme to transform desert areas to arable land.

The proximity of the factory to farms will help preserve the quality of produce by immediately processing and packaging it, and therefore supporting government initiatives.
